Baby Names

I think I may be overthinking this....

I'm glad my LOs name isn't super trendy, top 10, and that I don't hear it a lot on here.  Not uncommon, but not one of the most common either.  (we're naming her Allison)

Then I start to get worried.  Why isn't it more trendy?  Does no one like it?  Is it not good enough?  If it was a good name it would be top 10!  Maybe I should use a top 10 name that everyone likes!

I think it's time to hang up the towel.  Wink

  • Allison is a wonderful classic name. I really like it. There are a lot of great names that aren't in the top 10! It's not on our list because I'm good friends with an Allison so it would be strange to have a DD named that. You are over thinking it.

This post is meant to be a joke too, just funny because everyone gets so carried away with thinking about popularity.  Smile

    Very true! :)

  • I think a lot of people get into giving their baby a "new" or different name and just for the trendy ones first. Allison is a beautiful name, I think it just has always been in the 50th + positions on the rankings. Still used, just never really overused. Nice choice. :)

  • Yeah, I think in the quest for a perfect name, we all overthink.

I thought of a off-color slang term that the initials of the first and middle girl name we picked out MIGHT be associated with. I told my friends (and I have some gutter-minded friends) the name to see what they thought. They were all like "oh, cute name."

I told my Mom, "I really want to name the baby this... you don't think people will see the initials and tease her mercilessly... because...(whispers slang term)...?" She told me that that term was NOT associated with little girls, the name was lovely, and I needed to stop being so ridiculous.

  • I LOVE the name Allison...when I was a teenager it was one of my favorite names....in fact, I think the exact combination was Allison Amanda...;)

    I STILL like that name....

It's a really great one!  Use it!

You are so money and you don't even know it.
  • I love the name! My cousin just named her baby Allison.

  • I think Allison is a great name, and is one of the few "son" names for girls that doesn't mean "son of." It is a derivative of Alice, hence the "s" sound.

For what its worth, if you want to avoid using a popular name, don't nickname her Alli/Ally! It seems like every kid is going by Ally, Addy, or Maddy right now.

  • Yay! It's my name! :) No one uses it any more and I've always liked it. But I'm 1 L. Please don't call her Ally or Ali. I have always only been Alison... and I like it. It's what my mom named me! Altho... friends call me Shmalison and that's not so bad. Ha!
  • my nieces name is Allison, she goes by Allie now cuz shes 10 but i love the name!
  • I really like this name, and am in love with the nn Ally. It may be because I know an Ally that is 1 month younger than Dd.
