I like it. I think it sounds like a calming breath of fresh air (literally--I like saying it). My 73-year-old aunt is named Heather (my grandfather was a progressive namer) so the name isn't tied to the 70s/80s for me.
This is my name and I quite like it! I knew a Heather at every point in my childhood (which wasn't that bad, for the record), but your little lady would probably know very few girls with the same name.

I'm a bit biased since it's my name, but I've always loved it. The only thing I didn't like was graduating with 6 other people named Heather, but I don't think a girl born now would have that problem.
Well I like it actually. I don't think I would have used it in the 70s or 80s when it was more common but I think using it now is a great idea. She'll probably be the only Heather in her class. I think the name is pretty.
It's a nice name but very dated. I went to hs with a Patty- she was the only one and always had the same name as our friend's parents. A Heather now would run into the same thing..... but, I do like the name.
I guess it would be a unique name in your childs life though- not another isabelle or grace.
Agreed.
The best way to ensure a unique name, is to pick something from our generation. Hardly anyone will name their kids Heather. It makes me think of the heather on the hills of Scotland. I love it.
I love it and I myself am a Heather. I haven't heard it much lately, so I think it would be a great choice. I named my little girl Violet (for my grandmother) and am expecting another baby in January. I figured I'd stick with the flower theme and add a Lilly to my garden of flower tots, but I just found out it's going to be a boy!
Re: Heather
- The biiiiitch who backstabbed me a thousand times in hs before I finally cut off our friendship
- The Winona Ryder movie
So, sorry, no good associations.
Agreed.
This. It sounds dated.

It is my name so I like it and like pp I agree that it won't be overly popular for your daughter. I think a few of the pp are a little harsh.
I think it would be a great name now if you were looking for a Scottish or Celtic name.
I absolutely love it - but then it is my sister's name so I might be a bit biased. (and our family is Scottish)
At least it is difficult to shorten.
This. Your DD likely won't have any other Heathers in her class, and it is still a classic name.
