How to address envelopes?

I am sending out Brooke's birthday invites today so I am addressing the envelopes.  I have not done this in awhile so I am a little confused. The one I am getting ready to address is to DH's Aunt and Uncle.  We called them both by their first names so should I address it to You and You Lastname, and Family? Or Mrs. and Mrs. Lastname, and Family?

Re: How to address envelopes?

  • Personally, I would do you and you lastname and family.  It isn't a formal event.  Wedding protocol would be Mr. and Mrs.  Just my opinion.

    This. Keep it casual.

  • I agree with ajanes.
  • It depends on how formal you want to be.  But I'd say for a birthday party you'd address it to: "Jane and John Smith and family" or "The Smith Family".  Or, instead of "and family" write the childrens' names on the second line ("Jane and John Smith [next line] Sallie, Suzie, and Sam").  I've even addressed things to my aunts and uncles as "Aunt Jane and Uncle John Smith.  HTH!

Same here.  It's pretty informal.  The only time I really use Mr. and Mrs. are for people that I don't know all that well (friends of ILs that sent baby gifts, for example).  Otherwise, I keep it informal.

  • I usually put "The Brady Family" on the envelope.  This is when the whole family who lives at that address is invited.

If only certain people at that address is invited then I put their names as I call them.  Aunt Peggy and Uncle Dan Smith or Peggy and Dan Smith.

Unless it's a wedding don't worry about formality.

  • I agree with the pp's. It's an informal event so I'd do John and Jane Smith, or even The Smith Family.

  • Thanks ladies! I did first and last names on the first line, and if they had kids put them on the second line. I figured it did not need to be formal but I was getting nervous that someone would be offended.
