Potty training help!!

Hi my ds just turned 3 ,and has been showing signs of being ready to use the potty,he has been peeing on the potty for almost a week now,but most of the time won't tell us he needs to go,we will just sit him on there throughout the day, plus it's twice as hard for because he's severely delayed in expressive speech,so he barely talks,he pulls his pants off plus his diaper so that's how  we knew he might be ready,we've been keeping him in a pullup during day,and a diaper for nap and bedtime,we tried underwear but he peed like within 5 minutes and didn't seem to care he was wet, wwyd?Just keep putting him in pullup,or try underwear maybe again, pullups are so expensive though, please offer any suggestions u may have, thanks!!!

Re: Potty training help!!

  • Don't spend another dime on the Pull Ups (I know I'll probably get a lot of head shaking from angry moms regarding this advice). He seems like he's ready to be potty trained, so I would just keep putting undies on him and putting him on the potty chair like you've been doing. He'll get it. It just takes time, and in some cases, a looong time. Put him in diapers for naps and bed time, but otherwise, just stock up on the underwear, and change it when he's wet. Another thing you might want to try is bribery. Ok, I know that's not the best way to handle situations, but sometimes it's the only thing that works. When he does use the potty, reward him with a little something. You're already almost there! Just getting them to pee in the potty is a HUGE step! So, keep it up!
  • thanks for the advice,i do give him a sticker when he goes pee on the potty and he gets to put it in a little sticker book,he really likes this, and it keeps him sitting longer on the potty,if he wets only a little in his underwear though would u put them back on him a little wet or change him to a new pair?
