crystal light

hi, i'm sure someone has asked this already (i tried to search old posts but couldn't find anything). Is it ok to drink crystal light b/c of the phenylalanine it has in it? when i googled it, some said it was safe and some not safe. any thoughts?

Re: crystal light

  • Just drink it in moderation. I wouldn't chug it all day, but a glass a day will be fine.

  • I personally try to avoid artificial sweeteners in my diet right now...I wasn't a big fan of them before pregnancy though either. I'd bet a normal daily intake wouldn't do much harm...but as they say, everything in moderation. Wink

  • It's up to you. Personally, I gave up consuming any type of fake sugar about a year or two ago and I'm being extra careful not to consume any now that I'm pregnant. I don't think eating fake food is good for me or my baby.

I think most doctors saying it's ok in moderation, but I'm just not comfortable with it.

  • My DR is very laid back about things to avoid while pregnant...but he was adamant that I avoid artifical sweetners, so I do...
  • I wouldn't drink it because of the artificial sweeteners, but that's something I've been avoiding/cutting out for awhile now.

  • I was told to avoid it since it has artificial sweeteners.  I was a big dieter before becoming pregnant and now I pretty much stay away from the no sugar added stuff and diet snack because of the artificial sweetners they use.
  • am with you ShariL - I was/am a weight watchers member and was addicted to my crystal light, however, i read in "what to expect when you're expecting" that aspartame, which is the artificial sweetner in most of those water flavorings, is not good for the baby. ironically, splenda isn't. but i'm still staying away from the artificial stuff.
