so...my kid sleeps on the floor

anyone else buy their kid a great mattress, nice bed, adorable big boy comforter and sheets and then have ds choose to sleep on the floor instead?  DS has been sleeping on his floor (his choice) for the past week.  He's sleeping great, but it is driving DH crazy!

Re: so...my kid sleeps on the floor

  • Why does it bother your DH?  I'm sure I'd notice if DS slept on the floor but I can't imagine really having an opinion about it!

  • Your DH probably thinks that he's uncomfortable on the floor. Kids are so flexible that I don't think things like that bother them. DD sleeps great at daycare on her cot, and I bet I would wake up sore if I tried to sleep on a similar adult sized cot.

  • I understand it drives me crazy when DD asks to sleep on her twin size Aero bed. If I knew she would sleep great I might let her  but she falls off of it a lot when we use it for travel so I always tell her no.

  • DS slept in a tent set up in his room all summer.  He loved it, it was no biggie.  We took it down once school started-just because it was taking up so much room and it was bugging me!  Fun for the summer, though!

  • I'm not sure exactly why DH is so upset but he has been miserable about it the past few days.  DH thinks it makes us bad parents (i totally disagree).  He feels badly that DS is sleeping on a hard floor, usually without blankets (he refuses, but I cover him up after he falls asleep so he's not cold at night).  I think this is just my ds's way of asserting his independence and i'm happy he's been going to sleep without the typical hour long battle.
  • My DD2 has been sleeping on the floor (next to her nicely equipped big girl bed) for like a year.  I thought it was a phase, but apparently not. :-)
  • My brother use to do that when he was younger, and I can assure you that he is a well adjusted adult who now sleeps in his bed Stick out tongue I'm sure it is just a phase.

I watch 2 little boys 2 days a week and when they are here they and DD all nap on the floor and love it.

  • My DD#1 makes a tent under a baby tummy-time toy on the floor of DD#3's room and my  DD#2 sleeps in DD #1's bed.  They sleep great like that.  I figure if it doesn't bother them and they have a good night sleep it works for me.
