D.C. Area Babies

scotSailor.. Re: Chesterbrook

Hi there. I saw you posted about sending your LO to Chesterbrook in Kingstowne. Please don't take this the wrong way but have you up on their violations and looked into that facility. I have known a few people who's kids went there and they had so many bad complaints about them that they pulled them out. I never bothered to look there, my DD goes to another center in the area but from one mother to another, I just wanted to passt hat along.

I had checked out their violations too and there were many, not to mention there was high turnover, very disorganized, filthy, the teachers were awful etc.

I'm not saying this to scare you but I have never heard a positive report from them so I thought you might want to know.

Re: scotSailor.. Re: Chesterbrook

  • Thanks for the info, but I have looked at the violations and while there are a lot, most of them were ones I could live with.  DH and I visited several other daycares in the area and this one was by the the warmest reception we received.

Honestly, if you have never been there, how can you speak intelligently about their organization, cleanliness, or the quality of the teachers?  Chesterbrook was also the only place we toured that required all of their teachers to have bachelor degrees in early childhood education which to DH and I really allowed us to know that even at an early age their education will come first.

  • Please know, I am only passing this information along, as I would want to know if the roles were reversed.

No, I did not visit it only because after researching places heavily, I had heard too many not-so-good things about it and read the violations. Then just this past summer, in having casual conversations with parent?s at my daughter?s school, her swim class etc. it came up ?oh, where does your son or daughter go/where did they go to school? and they brought several issues that I had run into when I was looking at schools and that included, one mother saying that there were bugs all over the counters, kids coming home dirty, to name a few, so that to me does qualify to me as being dirty.

I can also say that I visited Kindercare off of Beaulah and that had its own issues. I was willing to overlook some of them but when others who I spoke to filled me in on the details, I took her off the list immediately so I was thankful for having that information.

And while no daycare is perfect, including where my DD goes, some things are more tolerable than others.

I didn?t mean to upset you, I know how difficult good daycare is to find but as I said earlier, I would want to know this information if the roles were reversed.
