Breastfeeding question (from 2nd Tri)

I don't know if this has been asked since I don't come on here much, but I have a breastfeeding question! 

Did you "prepare" your nipples for breastfeeding prior to giving birth?  My mom suggested I rub them with a washcloth each time I shower to get them ready for breastfeeding since this is my first baby, but I wasn't sure if this is correct since it's been 30 years since she had a baby!
