Hi everyone, I'm new here to The Bump and would love to get some opinions on a name I am considering!
I was just wondering what your first impression of the name Preston is, how many Preston's you know and how old, and what you think about the name overall. I've been reading some of the other posts and haven't seen it mentioned, but I just want to make sure it is not getting too popular. On the 2008 SSA list it was 124 but that was almost a year ago so I wanted to get some feedback from you ladies.
Thank you in advance!!

I dated a Preston in jr high--he was quite the gentleman! Great smile, too.
I love the name. Sophisticated, but NOT pretentious.
I don't like it. I think it sounds like wt trying to sound classy.
I dig!
Well there are certainly some mixed reviews but I thought most of them were good! Thank you all very much for your opinions. I still don't understand why some people say the name sounds "pretentious", or "wt trying to sound classy" but I do get that everyone has their opinions.
Any other feedback would be great
Thanks again!!
Boys name right? I dated a Preston once. Not too smart, but really cute!
Moesten...I've never in my 40+ years of life ever heard the term "He's a Preston." Sounds totally made up to me. Wonder why you would have such a reaction to a name to the point of using the word "hate" in your response. Odd.
As for the name itself I like it. There are two Preston's that I know of on the Parenting board. Both are cute little boys...I think 3-4 years old. I think it sounds distinguished...not prissy and certainly not WT (don't know where THAT came from). My DS's name is Winston which I also think is a distinguished sounding name. He is named after his grand, great, and great-great grandfathers.
Thank you hopefulmom!! I also that that was very strange and made up sounding, some people are just different I suppose.
And I agree with it not sounding WT, again, some people are different haha! Winston is such a cute name, it definitely reminds me of Preston style wise, I think they are both in the same category.
Thank you for your response, you made me feel better about some of the things the others had to say
I wouldn't expect you to have heard it. A friend of mine's wife suggested the name and he hated it. He felt the name was uptight sounding. Since then he and I have used the term "He's a Preston" in a teasing manner when someone is a stick in the mud. Never in my post did I suggest that "He's a Preston" is some pop culture saying that's sweeping across the nation. She asked for an honest opinion of the name and I gave it to her. It makes me cringe.
