Baby Names

What does everyone think

of the name Evelyn (with a possible nickname of Evie).

Also, any mn suggestions?

Be brutally honest please! My DH suggested this and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Our other girl name thoughts are possibly:

Abigail

Peyton

(mn for either would be Elizabeth)

I am kind of changing my mind about Abigail because it is apparently really popular at the moment.

TIA!

Re: What does everyone think

  • I LOVE Evelyn. It sounds so velvety and classic. Of course, it was my grandmother's name, and I think it's seriously beautiful. If we hadn't already basically decided our girl's name, Evelyn would be it. And, Evie or Eva are both beautiful nicknames. :) I love it. Please please please name her Evelyn, for me. :P
  • I LOVE Evelyn and it's on my list because my mother is Lynn, so I thought it would be a nice way to honour her.  Abigail is okay and Payton is NMS.

  • Thank you for the thoughts!  Another quick question...is it way too much that my DD's name is Madeleine, since the endings will sound the same?  Or should I not worry about that, especially because we really only call her by her full name, and this baby would probably be Evie in everyday life?

  • I don't think that the endings being similar will be a big deal. "Madeleine and Evelyn" doesn't sound bad, even when you use both of their full names. And "Madeleine and Evie" sounds like a TV show combo. :) Cute. I knew a family that started all their names with K's (5 kids) and a family in which all their names Rhymed (Chris, Tris, and Bliss) and while those things are quirky, they were also really fun. My brother and I both have "C" names, our parents planned it that way. So no, I don't think the ending counts Evelyn out.
  • I love Evie because that's DD's nickname.  I thought I liked Evelyn but we met a girl named Evelyn who went by Evie at the playland at the mall and it just seemed wrong for some reason.  Maybe it just seemed to old for her although she was probably about 8 or so.  My favorite on your list is Abigail.

  • I love the name Evelyn (it's on the shortlist for my little girl!).  I'm considering it because it seems timeless and has nn possibilities (I love Evie for a little girl and Eve could work when she is older).  As for mns, I have always been partial to using a family name so I don't have any suggestions.

Abigail is alright although I always think of an old woman and Peyton is just too 80's for me (Peyton's Place, anyone?).

  • I like Evelyn a lot, and especially more than Abigail and Peyton. Other NN is Eve. I know two little Evelyns and they are both cute.
  • i really like Peyton Elizabeth
  • I have never been a fan of nicknames, or names that can be shortened, so that said, I prefer Peyton from your list.  Abigail is very common now.

  • i think evelyn is super cute, i also love the nicname evie.  mn- nichole or marie?
  • I like Evelyn and the nn Evie.  Go for it!
  • I like Evelyn best of all your names, and I think it goes fine with Madeline

    Maddie and Evie

    It's cute!

  • i like evelyn the best!
  • LOVE it. ?Unfortunately DH didn't like it.

I think it's great with your other daughter's name and I like it a million times better than Abigail, since Abigail is sooooo popular.?

  • I love Evelyn.  I think it works just fine with Madeline.  DS 1 is Evan and we're naming DS 2 Nathan, with the nickname Nate.  And I love Evie!
  • Obviously, I love Evelyn.  I think Evie is a cute nn, although we just call our Evelyn by her full name (sometimes "Ev").

I think Abigail is pretty, but very common these days.  I'm not really a fan of Peyton.

  • I know it's popular but I just don't like the way it sounds and think of it as an old lady name.

Of your other choices, I prefer Abigail.  Peyton is nms, even coming from Chicago.  Big Smile

I think Peyton is a bit trendy - Abigail is nice, but I prefer Evelyn.

  • I don't like Evelyn - it sounds too old-lady-ish to me.

I LOVE Abigail (it was in the running for DD) and Peyton is OK, not really my style though.

  • Love Evelyn, and Evie is adorable. I think it goes fine with your other daughter's name.

Abigail is cute, too. It's popular, but very classic. It will wear well.

Peyton is NMS... too trendy! It also is a significantly different style than Madeline.

  • Love Evelyn and Evie!

  • I love Evelyn and nn Evie. ?Very cute, but also classic and would work well for her throughout her whole life.
  • Evelyn is beautiful but I dislike Evie. Maybe because of the nestie named Evie who was a trainwreck. I think Evelyn is lovely on it's own.

I also like Abigail. I'm not a fan of Peyton. That is so random Peyton is with 2 classic, feminine names on your list!

    ditto to bolded text.

  • Evelyn and Abigail are very nice. Peyton is to trendy for me, sorry.

  • I love the name Evelyn and Peyton the would both be on our list but in the last year two of our friends have named their babies that so that is out for us but i love them.

  • I love Evelyn, but don't like Evie. I just think that nn ruins the name. I know an Evelyn and almost everyone except her husband calls her Evelyn. Her husband calls her Ev (ee-v not Eve).

I love Abigail a lot (even more than Evelyn). A friend of mine has a DD named Abigail Elizabeth and I think it's a stunning name. It would be on our list if she didn't use it. Peyton is unisex which is definitely NMS.

  • My niece's name is Evelyn Mae and we call her Evie. At first I thought it sounded like an 85 year old's name but it's really grown on me and now I love it. :)
  • I love love love Evelyn.  DH nixed it from our list and I am so sad!  Love Abigail, hate Peyton. Good luck with your choosing!

  • I like it.  I LOVE Evie - so Eve is another option if it is not too biblical for you :)

  • I have never considered Evelyn, but I actually like it. I also like Abigail and Peyton too. I did see your older daughters name and the first thing I thought was that Evelyn & Madelyn sound too similar, but I guess that's your call. Also, how often will you use their full names? If you plan on using nicknames such as Evie & Maddy then I think there is no issue.
