Preemies

A Few Questions

We are meeting with the lady to set up Carter's EI eval next week, as well as the doctor for his 2 month appointment, so I will also ask these then:

When Carter eats, he always GULPS, and makes this wheezing sound as if it's coming too fast (both bottle and breast)...and I've tried the so-called slow flow nipples for the bottle but no difference.

He still gets many leg tremors.  They only last a few seconds, but it happens quite often.  At first I figured it was due to being premature and his nervous system still developing - but he is now almost 2 months, 2 weeks adjusted - is it still normal?

Finally - several of us discussed hemangiomas the other day - I was just wondering what the ones your LO's have look like.  Carter's started off flat, just a red spot that looked like a birth mark - but now they are pretty thick -all puffy and make it look like it could pop open any second.

Re: A Few Questions

  • Stella has the leg tremors too!  Oh my gosh this makes me feel so much better that someone else's LO gets these too!  I have talked to countless doctors & nurses about this & they all say that it's normal for these little guys.  We had a Dr. appt on Tuesday & her pedi said that as long as when we grab her legs that she stops, that it's fine (not a seizure or anything) & that she will grow out of them.  Trust me, I have worried about this alot too but it seems like she does it at really specific times, like when she's balancing on my leg eating a bottle, or when we are changing her diaper, when she's super agitated.  I really don't worry about it too much anymore since talking about it to so many healthcare professionals.

Stella doesn't have the birth mark things.  She chokes sometimes when she eats but doesn't do the gulping thing.  I would be though that full term babies do that though.  Stella makes kind of a wheezing/gurgling noise sometimes when she eats--I think it's just milk stuck in her throat or something.

    Hope this helps!

  • Ruby gulped a lot when she was small, but she had reflux, so I'm not sure if that was reflux related or preemie related? She was still learning to eat right I think... We tried slow flow nipples, but she would get so tired she would never finish her bottles, so we switched to the level ones and let her learn, but we would have to take breaks so she could catch her breath...

    I'm not familiar with tremors...

Ruby's hemangioma is raised and puffy. That is normal. That's why they are sometimes referred to as strawberries =)
