Registry?

I'm wondering when most people sign up for a baby registry?  I thought that I'd at least wait until my 17 week appointment (this coming Monday).  Is that too soon?  Will a lot of things go out of stock by the time the little bun comes along in February?

I'm also debating whether I should register at (1) Buy Buy Baby, (2) Babies R Us, and/or (3) Target.  I think AlbeeBaby has great prices (and no tax if you live outside of NY), but the website and selections aren't that great.  How many registries did you have?

My SIL told hubby that she's planning a shower for me, but she hasn't said anything to me directly, yet.  I have no clue when it'll be (if I actually have one).  What would you do?

Re: Registry?

  • I just started mine a couple of days ago, for the stuff that sex wont change.

And as for where, there is a site called myregistry.com, you can add stuff from every single website, and have it all in one place. I thought it was great, and allows you to have a varity of stores.

  • I just registered on Monday, so at 25 weeks.  My shower will be when I am about 36 weeks.  I registered at three different places, due to the different places having different items that I wanted.

  • I registered early so I could have time to research all the products and make changes before people started looking at them for the showers. I registered at BuyBuyBaby and Walmart. I personally hate Target's registries, and they are ALWAYS more expensive. Babies R Us can be convenient for some people but they too have higher prices then BBB and Walmart. What I love about BBB is you can use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons there, and Walmart gives free site to store shipping.

  • We did an in-store at BRU (just to get started) the day of our big u/s (20 weeks 1 day), and we updated it online a few days later. We started a diapersnaturally.com registry last weekend, after visiting the store (it's a local cloth diaper shop), when I was 22 weeks on the dot. We'll keep updating as we go. My shower is going to be when I'm 31 or 32 weeks, so I'll check availability and stuff closer to then.
  • We registered after our 20 wk u/s because we wanted to know the sex first. We have 3 registries... 1 main one with most items and 2 smaller registries that are online only for specific items we didn't like at BRU (Bedding and Bassinet).

  • I am also due in February.  My shower will be in January (I will be 36weeks) and I plan to register in November (28-30 weeks).

  • I started mine pretty early.  Maybe at 17 weeks, I don't remember exactly.  We got all neutral things for the big items and I already knew what I wanted so I just started it.  My first shower isn't until Oct but it was nice b/c I had plenty of time to change my mind about somethings.  I personally like the online shopping best so that was more important to me.  We did Target and Babies R Us.

  • we just did it after we found out the sex. it really didnt make a difference because since we plan on having more than one child, we will use the same things. but there were a few boy things we registered for. i have 1 registry at BRU. you still have plenty of time to see if your SIL says anything about a shower!
  • I have 2 that I started online around 14 weeks. I did it to keep track of things we had decided on, so each registry has about 4 things.

I haven't added anything in awhile though, but my shower isn't until 34 weeks so I've got time.

  • I started mine around 25 weeks.  You just need to have it done by the time you send out invitations for your shower.  I am having my shower at 32 weeks so the inviations need to go out around 28 weeks.

  • I've been researching and decided on what it is that I want/we need.  I plan to actually start my registry next week, but mostly because I feel like I haven't done anything to prepare yet (we're in the process of selling our home/buying a new one) and my type A personality can't handle it.  I still have plenty of time, but want to feel somewhat accomplished.
