I'm going to attempt/start a shirt for myself tomorrow, but I have to alter the chest because there aren't any patterns that will fit me on their own. I'm worried about how it's going to go. I'm sure I can do it though.
Yes, I've done it because on a shirt the chest size needs to be atleast a 22 and the waist size needs to be a 16 so I'm not wearing a pup tent. I'm not really a great seamstress by any stretch of the imagination, but it went more smoothly than I thought. I got it partly put together and then put the shirt on wrong side out and pinned the front seams together that way so I knew where it needed to start curving in.
This is encouraging. I'm not even on the chart of my pattern for the chest! It sucks. But at least if it works I'll have something that fits and know how to alter where it's necessary to fit.
I have altered patterns, but not really for myself. I worked in the costume shop when I was a theatre major (I was thinking of becoming a costume designer). So we often used one pattern on MANY body types.

Re: Anyone ever have to alter patterns for themselves?
So could I pick your brain if I need to? :-)
