6 weeks pregnant, just started bleeding

I am not cramping, but I started bleeding bright red-similar to a light period. I am waiting for the on call nurse to call back. It started while I was at work after I told a few people about my BFP. I feel so stupid. Thankfully someone came in so I could go home. Hopefully it's nothing. Anyone bleed in the 1st tri and everything be ok?

  • (((hugs))) I know there are people who bled during their first tri and some even beyond and had healthy babies. I hope you'll be one of them.

  • It can happen and I hope that is the case for you.  I'll send lots of positive thoughts your way!
  • I bled with both of my pregnancies (I had subchorionic hemmoraghes both times - I have no idea if I spelled that right!). Sometimes it was brownish but with my DD it was bright red too. It is scary - hang in there. I wish you all the best!

  • I bled a lot at almost 12 weeks, bright red blood.  DD luckily was fine.  I really hope everything works out!

    this exactly!

  • I just read something on babycenter.com that some women do have bleeding at this point and everything is fine.  I hope that is the same for you!
  • Thank you all for your kind words. The nurse seemed to think it was nothing to worry about and that I just needed to rest and just call if I start cramping or bleeding heavily. Hopefully it is nothing. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks again. It really means a lot to have the support.

  • I bled early on with DD.  She is 3 years old.
  • I had bright red bleeding with no cramping around six weeks.  I called the doctor and they had me rest and call them if the bleeding became heavy.

I spotted for a few days and then it disappeared.  I went on to have a completely uneventful pregnancy and have a healthy almost three year old daughter.

I will keep you in my thoughts.  Take care and stay positive!

  • I had bleeding with 2 of my pregnancies.  One ended in m/c at 9 wks, one turned out to be a subchorionic hemorrhage that I had to be put on bedrest for & then restricted lifting (and resulted in a healthy 9lb, 9oz baby boy!).

I would INSIST on an u/s ASAP.  If it is a hemorrhage, they need to know.  With my m/c the nurse insisted that everything was "probably fine", but deep down I knew better. I never had any cramping or heavy bleeding- just spotting.   I pushed for an u/s & we discovered that the baby's hb was way lower than normal.  4 days later he was dead.  I am telling you this because you need to push to be seen.  Don't let them make you wait & worry.  The worst part, IMO, is not knowing if things are OK.  GL.  I hope everything is OK.

I just talked to the generic on call nurse tonight. I will call my OB's nurse in the am and am hoping they will see me. I agree, the waiting and worrying is awful. An ultrasound to give me some reassurance would help. So far the bleeding has stopped and I have my fingers crossed it stays that way.  Thanks for the info!

  • I had bright red bleeding that seemed like a period in my 1st trimester.  It ended up being a slight tear in my placenta.  It went from brown to red, I bled for probably a week.  It was horrible waiting to see what was going to happen but all was good, good luck!
  • Not sure if you're still checking this thread, but I was lurking and saw this.  Since there is no cramping, it sounds like you might have a subchorionic hematoma.  I've had one since week 5 of my pregnancy.  Every 2 weeks, I'll get a bright red gush of blood for one day followed by brown spotting.  It was so scary at first,  but I'm actually not nearly as worried as I was before.  Most hematomas are harmless.  I've never heard of one which resulted in a MC.  I really hope your baby is ok, and that it's nothing!
