I had someone who does EI evals mention to me that children who didn't do "traditional" crawling for long periods, don't develop the upper arm dexterity and may have delayed writing/drawing skills in their early years. She mentioned that it was a recent thing that was being studied. It was in the conversation when I had mentioned that DS1 army crawled all the time and only got up on all fours for a couple of weeks before he started walking. She said that if I was inclined, it would be helpful to him to play games where he has to use arm strength - like pretend to be animals crawling around on the floor, or playing wheelbarrow, etc.
I just found it interesting b/c I did actually notice that he seemed to be "behind" in his drawing. While the other kids in school were drawing basic faces, he was still making wild scribbles. Anyway - just thought it was interesting enough to pass along.
Re: S/O writing at 3yo
I remember reading that as well.
My 3 yo can make a circle and I'm perfectly happy with that.
I still can't see your pics!
That's interesting!
And I can see your pic just fine.

I should have clarified better - it was a slightly longer term thing - as in those children who crawled on all fours tended to have better/more defined handwriting skills at say age 7 compared to the other children who didn't, like my DS. I was just noticing that in my DS for example, I was noticing the delay already and figured it was related.
My DD walked at 9 months, but required OT in order to be able to crawl (at 14+ months). She was really strangely delayed. . . she couldn't do any transitional movements (belly to sitting or pulling to stand) until OT. But if you sat her on her butt she'd sit and if you put her on her feet she'd walk away.
However, when she started really getting into coloring at 17 or 18 months she colored in the lines, from the start. She could also write her name by the time she turned 3 and can write most letters of the alphabet. She draws rudimentary pictures that actually resemble what she says she's drawing.
So the correlation is not there for my DD, BUT she did receive therapy.
