Switching daycares... need your opinions, please!

Ok... DH and I are disagreeing on something and he actually suggested I ask you ladies for your input. Here's the deal:

DD has been in the same daycare since she was 10 weeks old. For several reasons, we are going to be switching daycares. The new baby will start Jan 1, but DH and I are disagreeing about when to switch DD. I'm due Oct 3 with dc #2. I think we should at least wait until Nov 1 to move DD. I think that giving her a few weeks to adjust to the new baby before uprooting her at school as well, would be a good move. DH thinks that it doesn't matter and we should move her asap (which, by the time we give her current daycare notice and sign up at the new one, would probably fall right around my due date (or shortly thereafter).

So what are your thoughts? Give her some time to adjust to the new baby/changes and then, a few weeks later, move her to her new daycare? Or throw all the changes on her at once? She'll be around 18 months when new baby arrives.

Thanks in advance for your input! :)

  • is dd staying home with you at all after the new baby arrives?  if so, dd could stopy the current center, stay home with you for a couple of weeks and then head to the new center

  • We may drop DD's schedule at daycare down to 2 days (not sure yet) once baby arrives. We had a really rough start with DD, so we want that option of being able to send DD to daycare if this next baby is colicky too (try to get things in order/establish some kind of routine/get comfy with new baby). She definitely won't be home with me full time (at least not in the first few weeks after baby).

  • I'd get her set up at the new place ASAP or else wait until January and start them both together. There are so many changes with bringing home a new baby, that worrying about changing DD#1's daycare during that time sounds frightning to me!

Mia didn't react to DD#2's birth until about 3 weeks after we brought her home. I don't know if this delay is common or not.
