How do you tell the diffrence from a cold or alergies

I feel like crap and don't know which one to treat since i can't tell which it is.  I'm thinking it's alergies but, not sure.

I go through this on a weekly basis.  Usually I wait a day and then I can tell.  If its worse, its usually a cold, if its better, then something really got my allergies flaring.  That being said, I luckily dont get "sick" often.  Just allergies that turn into sinus infections and bronchitis.

I just got over a sinus infection and thought it was allergies-the doc told me if your snot is green and opaque-its not allergies!
