2nd Trimester

mucus plug..i hope this is all in my head

this morning I peed and whipped, i noticed that there was a clear gel like substance after i peed on the toilet paper and coming out of me. It freaked me out a little bit, but I just kind of wrote it off for the time being. Now majority of the times I've peed today, there has been a gel like clearish-yellow discharge on the toilet paper. I wouldn't consider it a ton of discharge at once. The only thing that is running through my mind is that its a mucus plug. I haven't seen blood in it yet. My mom thinks I'm over reacting. I don't know. I am afraid to go to the Dr. and it be absolutely nothing. Anyone else experience something similar? Any thoughts?

  • souinds like you have some snail trail ... and even if it is your mucus plug ... i think i heard it can come out and replace itself throughout pregancy

  • You might get more results if you post on 3rd tri. From what I read over there about mucus plugs (as there are several of these posts daily), you should tell your OB since you're far from full term, but I wouldn't be *too* concerned as it does not necessarily mean that birth is coming. Some lose theirs soon before labor, some weeks before, and some not at all. I also read that it grows back if you lose it too early. Again, since you're so far away I would call your OB though.

  • I am nowhere near as far along as you are, but I've noticed a lot more mucus when wiping in the last few days.  I just think it's one of those glamorous  pregnancy things.

  • Your mucus plug probably won't be "wipe-able."

When I was pg with DD, I lost bits of it - they plopped.   I guess it regenerated, because the night I went into labor I lost a great big glob of mucus.  It doesn't really resemble discharge, IME.  It's pretty darn solid.

  • excuse my spelling. Wiped.*

"snail trail"...no its not that kind of discharge. There is a difference.

  • Thanks ladies. I feel much better now. Excuse my ignorance, I had no idea your mucus plug could "grow back".
  • I lost my plug with my first daughter about an hour before I started laboring, but it was unmistakable and I almost passed out...picture a wine cork made of gel.  It was large and very identifiable, but I did not see it with any of my other pregnancies.  BTW, read Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy...it is not only hilarious (I read it in one day), but it goes into all about the mucus and Dr. visits in relation.  :)
  • Its probably snail trail. Your mucus plug isn't just a little, it would be A LOT. Think golf ball sized.

If you're worried, definitely call. Its worth it for the peace of mind. But I highly doubt its mucus plug (which, BTW, does reginerate if you lose it early, but your doctor still will want to know about it)

  • Your mucus plug will be large and snot-like. I think you are having normal discharge. FWIW, you can lose pieces of your mucus plus and it will 'replace' itself. Not to worry!!

  • you could have a vaginal infection. when i had bv the first sign (for me) was a yellow-y discharge like you are describing.
