Ruby hasn't slept through the night for months! But she did last night thanks to the sleep advice shared by SBMBride! For those that remember, she shared about getting Marino to sleep through the night by having a bed in his room, putting him to bed awake, and pretending to sleep in the bed near him until he figured out how to go to sleep on his own. I liked this method, because I did not have the heart to leave the room when my child was upset.
Here are the details of my experience, for those other moms of one year olds who still aren't sleeping through the night...Ruby had been an ok sleeper, going to bed easily, but would wake once or twice a night for a long time, but going back to sleep easily so we didn't mind. But then she started waking more often, and would not go back to sleep no matter what we did. For the last few weeks, she would be awake for an hour or more, crying, with us trying to get her back to sleep...
We started our modified sleep training Thursday night, and Ruby cried for an hour (from 12:30am to 1:30am) before she gave up, laid down, and fell asleep... this happened a second time for 30 minutes (from 4am to 430am). Thankfully, she wasn't full on crying, and I credit this to having a parent in the room... (Again, we were in our own bed near her, pretending to sleep, and available should she hurt herself or get out of control upset, but this did not happen) So, night one sucked. I felt like I couldn't handle this process. But I told myself, that she was crying at night anyway, so I had to stick it out...
On Friday night she woke at 2am and went back to sleep without crying, then woke again at 4am and cried (kinda) for about 15 mintues. Wow, such great progress already! Thank goodness!
Saturday night she woke at 2 am and went back to sleep without crying, and then woke again at 4am, and went back to sleep without crying! No tears! All we did was go into her room and lay down, say ni night, and so did Ruby!
Sunday night we were up a little late for a birthday dinner, so I was worried this would interfere with our training... but she didn't wake up at all! She slept straight through until 7am!
I am so hopeful now. So thank you Sara for sharing what worked for you!

Good luck!! We essentially did the same thing. The first night was hell. The 2nd night was frustrating. The third night was pure heaven.
