The recent post got me thinking...
It seems like such an uphill battle for your kid!! I know some names are absolutely gorgeous when pronounced correctly but you/your child is going to have to write the pronunciation in parenthesis every.single.time. the name gets written.
Just my opinion! You ladies have helped me with your opinions in the past many times!
Re: Having the pronunciation in parenthesis after the name
I think this totally depends. For example, as I'm assuming this is a S/O, no one should even have to explain how Bronte is pronounced. If someone never took English Lit in high school, I'm sorry for them, but it's not the fault of the parents naming their daughter.
Now, if you're naming your daughter Maedysiin (Madison), there's an issue.
Well put. ITA with all of this.
It depends. Some names have some cultural significance, and just to see them spelled, one wouldn't always know how to pronounce them. Some of these are really lovely, legitimate names. It takes a little pronounciation help, but most the time you just need to explain it once.
I have a problem with the made up names and spellings. NMS. Since there's a significantly different spelling, one sometimes wonders if it's pronounced differently. Nope--just another parent that is trying to get around the pesky "you can't be unique AND name your kid Madison rule."
Having a name that is not easily pronuonced or spelled, is not havnig an up hill battle for a child. Actually is is on the low scale of the battles kids will have to face.
I agree.
