Can anyone explain to me why people feel it is inappropriate for the president to address students about the importance of education? I'm sooo confused.
amid the crazy people who are afraid of Obama "brainwashing" their children, there are people with legitimate concerns about the timing of the speech.
My mom is director of guidance at her middle school and she is a HUGE Obama fan. But she said to me today that it's obvious that whoever planned this whole thing isn't actually familiar with how schools really work. The live speech is at noon (when most schools are doing lunch) and it's the first day of school, which is already very hectic. At her school they are going to show a tape of it on another day this week because the logistics of changing all the lunch blocks was just too much trouble.
the logistics argument is one thing; but I find it ludicrous that people are arguing that this is his way of pushing his 'socialist' agenda, as one congressman put it. It's appalling. If you read the content of the speech, he is basically telling students to stay in school, to get a solid education, and to strive to be whatever they want to be. Republic or Democrat, that is a solid message (not to mention a message that past presidents on both sides of the aisle have also given in their own speeches at schools).
