Babies: 0 - 3 Months

room temp ?

I saw an article about keeping baby's room at 61 to 67 degrees to help prevent SIDS.  We keep our temp at night around 74.  We live in FL and the baby's room faces the setting sun so now I'm worried that the fan won't really help.  How many people keep their nursery this cool?  Do you just turn down the air or do you have a seperate a/c for the nursery?

Re: room temp ?

  • we keep our house at 73 degrees. He wears a sleepsack at night. He also has a fan in his room.

  • Holy Shiit .. that is too cold IMO.  We keep our place set to about 74 or 75.

ETA:  He also sleeps with a ceiling fan on low and in a sleep sack.

So glad I'm not the only one who thought that was crazy cold!

  • In summer, 75 degrees.  In winter, 65 degrees (we have forced hot air and when it's too hot in the winter I get dry skin and nosebleeds Sad)... but we may end up upping our winter temperature a bit for the baby.

I think that 67 sounds fine, but 61 is too cold.

  • The class we took at the hospital told us to keep it at 68, but we keep it between 72 and 76. I think 68 is way too cold, and she would be shivering even with the sleep sack.

  • Our pediatrician said to keep the temp at 72. I think we keep it a little cooler than that, DH and I like it cold when we sleep so we are trying to adjust. We do sleep with a ceiling fan on. LO sleeps swaddled in a blanket with a hat and sometimes an extra blanket, if he's chilly during the night.
