With this name you need to be careful about flow. It can run into a lot of words and not work IMO. So my answer would be it depends on your last name.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I love the name Hugh. I think it depends on your last name. If it has a strong consanant or two in there, you should be fine. Also, try to give him a two-or three syllable middle name to balance it out.
My hubby and I also have a one-syllable last name, and our favorite boy's name is Neil. I was worried about "will the poor kid have enough name," but the more I said it, the more I liked it. Being short gave it a certain directness.
Sorry, but I don't like it with your last name (I agree with the "You trip" comment). My last name is one syllable and we won't consider any one syllable names. There are a lot of great multiple syllable names so it hasn't been too much of a challenge.
Yep, that is the flow thing I would avoid. Any last name that sound like a verb or adjective with Hugh will be made fun of in school. "You trip" isn't as bad as it could have gotten, but worth taking a few minutes to think about.
My H loves the name Hunter for a boy. My last name sounds like preasure bt with a "B"... so I kept singing "Under Preasure" because that is what it kind of sounded like together. Needless to say it is not his name.
