the quick culture came back negative, but the doc saw spots and went ahead and prescribed antibiotics because of the long weekend....plus it is too late to send it to the lab for the "long" culture since it won't go until Tuesday now...so we are treating it like its strep throat.

Actual the quick strep tests are more accurate than the cultures.  It takes 48 hours for the cultures anyway.  The ENT I used to work for would never send in for cultures if he was going to prescribe an antibiotic anyway.  He said it was a waste of $$ (insurance or patient).
