Two Under 2

Just offered a promotion, to take it or not to take it

WOW. This week has been a whirlwind. Two weeks ago I was presented with a new opportunity that I knew would be diffcult with one since it would involve more events at night and even a bit more travel and then this week we find out we are expecting again and I just got out of the bosses office and was presented with a new opportunity and the timing could not be worse!

He would like for me to sleep on it over the weekend and then let my director know on Tuesday what my thoughts are.... little does he know that at the peak of when things would need to be done I would be on maternity leave.

Has this happened to anyone else and how have you handled it or if you were me what would you do?

Re: Just offered a promotion, to take it or not to take it

  • Would the extra work be too stressful with 2 kids? I had been offered a promotion before I was expecting DC2 and I told my boss I accepted. Well then the economy went down the tubes and it took a year before it got approved. When it finally did get approved I was pregnant. I took it anyway and just told them a few weeks later (after I was out of the first tri) that I was pregnant. You have no obligation to tell them you are pregnant. I know it feels "wrong" but if you want the promotion you should accept it. Back when I was pregnant with DS1 I was offered another position in my company. The woman who would be my boss said she thought I would do the best job and would rather go without someone for 15 weeks while I was out than hire someone else. If they offered you the promotion they must think you are doing a good job and are worth it. Good luck with whatever you decide!!
  • Is this the job you want to have 2 years from now?

If so.... take it!  You've earned it.

If you don't think it's gonna be a good fit for your family long term I don't thin I'd take it unless it was an insane amount of cash I could bank before the baby came.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
