Target Brand Vs. Enfamil Formula

Has anyone asked their doctors if these are truely similar? I know they are compared on the Target brand can, but kinda sketched out to switch. Going to ask pedi on Tuesday, but wondering if any of you girls use the Target brand formula. It's soo much cheaper and it looks exactly the same.

Re: Target Brand Vs. Enfamil Formula

  • I asked my pediatrician about the Parents Choice.  We are only supplementing 3-6 oz a day of formula.  She said that like any generic brand, the quality of the ingredients is not the same.  Since I was only supplementing, she said that she preferred that I used the name brand.

  • The CVS brand is comparable to the Enfamil too and my pedi said its fine to switch.  DD has done great on the CVS brand.  Right now its 40% off on cvs.com too.
  • My pedi is on the speaker's board for Enfamil, but told me Target brand is just as good.  We've been using it for months with no problems.
  • When you switched, did you mix the two or just go straight to the Target brand?

Are generic or store-brand formulas less nutritious than brand-name formulas?

All generic formulas must meet the same strict safety, nutrition, and manufacturing guidelines as the priciest products on the market. So, no, they're not less nutritious.

The reason they're less expensive is that the manufacturers of generic formula don't spend millions of dollars on research or on marketing, and they don't give away free samples the way some other formula companies do. They simply sell a product that meets the standards set by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Interestingly, Wyeth Nutrition, a division of an enormous pharmaceutical company, makes the majority of "generic" or store-brand formulas on the market. Before moving in to the generic category, Wyeth Nutrition marketed their own brand-name formula, SMA.

We went straight to the Target brand with no problems.  We do put Mylecon in every bottle, though.  Our pedi said it was fine.  We use the Target version of that, too.

  • I asked mine and he said it was fine to use.  We switched to Target that day and haven't had any problems.
  • DD is on Emfamil Gentlease and we use the generic version, Members Mark at Sams Club. Pedi said its just as good and you get 48 oz for 24.00 instead of 22 oz for 26.00....
