Boo...stretchmarks!

I thought I was escaping them till DH had to point a few out to me.  At first I thought they were veins but no...I have 8 so far.   8 purple swiggly lines that looks like someone came up to me with a purple marker and drew on me.  I'm sure there is more to follow since I have a few more months on the twinkies arrival!   Vent Over!!!

(p.s.  I'd actually take them anyday just to have these 2 miracles inside me.  Its just an initial shock!!)

  • I thought I was going to luck out too... yeah right!!  I just found two today as well.  Two little purplish squigly lines.  I'm not disapointed though, I knew they'd make their arrival sooner or later!  At least I know my little ones are growing inside this big ol belly of mine :)  I take a full stomach of them if that means they will keep cooking for for a while longer.  Good luck!
  • I am so glad you posted!  I am already fat to begin with.. and was on the look out for wavy red lines... now I will start looking for purple squiglies too!  And will double check those roadmaps I thought were simply veins!  And do any of you use creams or swear by a certain brand?  And how often do you use them?

  • I'm 35 1/2 weeks and can't look close enough to find out if they are there b/c of my huge budha belly!  I guess I'll have to wait until afterwards.  Can't muster up asking my DH to look!
  • It was a sad day when I discovered my stretch marks..and even sadder when DH informed he had seen them a week ago...and then I was a MORON and put a handheld mirror under my stomach to get a good luck at them- NOT A SMART IDEA!  DON'T DO IT!

To PP, there is no cream that will stop them, prevent them, or make them go away.  However, the creams will help with the itching.

  • Mine didn't show up until 3 days before I delivered!
  • I am convinced that were we having just one baby, I would've escaped without any stretchmarks.  I got my stretch marks around 33-34 weeks (just when my fundus measured 40 cm--full term size for a woman pregnant with one baby).  I agree with everyone else though, it's totally worth it to know that your babies are growing healthy inside you, instead of on tubes in the NICU.  I made it to 38 weeks and 1 day and had to be induced, so needless to say, those stretch marks only got worse.  My boys are now a little over three months old and the marks have faded a little, but the wrinkles I've been left with a even more depressing.  They are VERY SLOWLY disappearing, but I know my stomach will never look the same.  I will say this, you do reach a point where you just accept the fact that you will never look the same and just deal with it.  I look at my boys today and know that they are completely healthy and it really brings me joy.  No one really likes stretch marks, but in my acceptance I have come to look at them as something "beautiful" because they remind me of how lucky I was to carry the boys as long as I did.
