Took paci away and she's been crying since 8:30!

And she's started climbing out of her crib!!  She's never done this before.  I've rocked her a little, rubbed her back, she has a new stuffed animal and her blankie that she's always had!  I knew it would be hard but the climbing out the of crib is making me nuts!  Partially cuz I don't want her to get hurt and partially cuz I don't want her wandering around the house!

Please tell me it gets easier and send some sleep vibes that she finally gives it up and goes to sleep!

  • Ugh, that is so hard. I had to take dd's from her and it was so hard.  I hope she settles in for the night and goes to sleep.
  • S never took a paci so I have no experience with one. why not let her keep it at night and just leave it in the crib during the day?  just a suggestion, like I said I have no paci experience.

    good luck though!

  • the funny thing is, she hasn't asked for the paci even once!  I think she understands it's gone, she's just having a rough time!  Poor baby!
  • She did only have it only in the crib since 18 mos.  She's almost 2.5 and I just feel like it's time.  I feel bad but I think it would only be harder the older she gets.  I really wish i took it away a long time ago!
  • aawwwww! :( poor baby and poor mommy. good luck!

  • I am dreading this day and I know it will be coming soon.  I have no advice just wanted you to know I feel for you!

BTW, did you tell her it was broken, give it to binky fairies, or did you just take it away?  I have no idea how to even go about this????

  • We did the "paci fairy".  I had the girls in the tub and we had already talked about the paci fairy a million times.  She even knew it was going to happen within a day or so.  Right before they got in the tub, my older DD looked out the window and said "i see the paci fairy" and my youngest went right along with it and she even said that the paci fairy was coming for her paci to take to the babies.

So, I saw this as my open door and while they were playing in the tub, I sprinkled pixie dust (glitter) in a trail from the window to the crib and left this stuffed pig that she was dying to have.  I also left the window open a crack with pixie dust all over the sill as well.  Once they got dressed and ran in her room, they were so excited!  We put pixie dust in their hair and we made huge fuss over her new stuffed pig.  She also never slept with anything besides a paci and small blankie so it's a big deal to sleep with a stuffed animal.  Like I said, she hasn't asked for the paci back.  But she literally sucked that thing all.night.long.  so it's gonna be tough for her.

     BTW, she's sleeping now!!

Also, another idea I had (not sure if I thought of it or if I had read it on her and thought I thought of it) was to take her to Build a Bear and have them put the paci in the animal she chose.  that way she still technically has it.  I may let her do that with the spare one I have in the cabinet.

  • Great idea with the fairy.  You totally played it up!  I may have to try it that way (in a couple months...LOL)
