so i was completely sold on the idea of GMD prefolds, ready to buy. THEN, i heard about LL unbleached flats and it got me thinking... which is better, flats or prefolds? and how do you double flats?
also, i spent 1.5 HOURS sitting in the feeding aisle at target today, trying to decide which glass bottles to buy. the born free ones i had initially wanted were $12.99 A PIECE.. WTF?!!? that is absolutely RIDICULOUS! not to mention, ill be EBF - but the bottles are only for the few times FI will want to feed LO, or for babysitters, etc. so... i decided to go with the $5.49 / 3 evenflo glass bottles bc i heard they fit on the medela pump in style (which ill be using), and that you can use dr.brown's nips with them (which i heard are great for BFing babies). anyone have thoughts on the evenflo bottles? did i waste my $10.98 (big woop if i did, right). i just cant justify 12.99 for one FOUR OZ BOTTLE. geez.
sorry to rant - but clearly, i need some help ![]()
thanks beauties!
Re: i am completely absurd. CD and bottle question
Never used anything but Dr. Brown's so can't comment on the bottles (except my EBF took to the Dr.B nipples very well!).
As for flats vs. prefolds-- IMO, flats are better. I can get a better fit, they are trimmer (even if you double them), and they never even get close to having stink problems (I have had some stink problems with prefolds and natural fiber fitteds, but never my flats). Plus, flats are one-size and prefolds are not, so they're a way better buy money-wise. I suppose prefolds may be easier, but really, flats are not hard at all. I fold them all when they come out of the wash so they're ready to go and just as easy as prefolds when a diaper change happens. I have some LL flats and like them a lot. I also have Imse Vimse Muslin Squares and like them a lot too (probably a tad more than the LL). If you want to know more of a comparison, let me know. To double flats, you just lay two right on top of each other prior to folding. You could also do a sort of trifold type deal inside of a regularly folded one but I think that gets too bulky. I've actually never doubled my flats, though, as I just change him when he gets wet and they're more absorbant than you'd think.
thanks for the input ladies!!!
maybe i'm not as absurd as i thought - except for the whole sitting in the middle of the aisle on the floor at target for extended periods of time. evenflo and flats it is... BEAUTIFUL!
I have never used any nipple but the latex ones that you can get for evenflo (I'm not a silicone user) and never had a problem and BF for 13 mo. I don't know if you can use the Dr Brown's but when you try it out, you should repost and let me know!!! I'd be interested in seeing if they have latex.
