stain remover/laundry detergent

I've been using All free and clear and shout spray for the longest time, but now it doesn't seem to be doing as good of a job as getting stains out and seriously by the end of the day (and sometimes even by naptime) Finn is a hot mess.  What do y'all use to help get stains out?

Re: stain remover/laundry detergent

  • I could have written this post exactly!  I use the exact same thing and it's not working so great.  I just started adding Oxyclean...I think it's working.  Have only done a load or two with it and they weren't too bad to begin with.  I'm also thinking of switching to Tide just to try.  I'm curious what others will say.

I have tried adding Clorox 2 color booster/stain lifter and I couldn't tell that it did anything.

  • The only thing that works for me is Stain Stick applied within 24 hours of the stain. I use Kirland Free and Clear detergent and Oxyclean. I've decided I don't think the Oxy works.

  • i have a bucket in the laundry room that is just oxyclean.  Anything with stains on it, i just toss in there.  I presoak the stains there, and then put them in the wash.  Sometimes the stuff may soak for a day or two, but I've had really good results.
  • The only thing that works for us is applying something right when it happens. Usually the Spray and Wash stuff for set in stains works best.
  • I have had luck using the spray Oxy Clean after it has been washed and the stain doesn't come out.

Also, I try to spray it down before it goes in the wash.

  • I use the All Free and Clear too.  I was using Dreft Laundry Spray on his clothes before stains set in and it seems to work most of the time. I'll probably switch to Oxyclean when I'm done with what I have because I heard it gets great results.  I also just started using Tide Stain Release in the wash for loads that have stains on them and that actually seems to be working too.  It's gotten out some stains that have been set for a long time.
  • I use the Oxyclean spray on all of Ella's bibs and burp cloths.  I have yet to have any show formula stains after a washing.  I spray them as soon as I put them in the hamper and, if there is a lot of stains, again right before I throw it in the washer.  That stuff even got out blood for me!
  • Ox.Y.Clean

I use the powder in the laudnry and I keep some in a spray bottle in Evie's bathroom to soak her stuff.

  • We use Spray and Wash (in the green bottle). It seems to do the job pretty well. Kate doesn't get that messy (at least she hasn't so far), though. (Famous last words!)

There are always lots of threads on GymboFriends about stain removal. Lots of the ladies there use various products and concoctions, but OxiClean is VERY popular.

One time I got a lot of chocolate on Kate's PBK baby blanket from a bad decision to eat a truffle in the car. This was when she was an infant, and I was sitting in the back with her. Anyway, things went horribly wrong, and chocolate ended up all over her beautiful blanket, which was a gift. I spray and washed that thing like crazy as soon as we got home, and then I think I let it soak overnight before washing it. It all came out--I was pretty surprised and so glad! I am rambling.

  • P.S. Tide and Gymboree have a partnership. I just got a coupon for Tide's stain removal stuff at Gymboree this morning. You might want to check it out, too. I think there may be some coupons available online in connection with this partnership.

  • I have learned alot from gymbofriends and my more experienced moms....here is what works for us.....

    * soak it in biz or oxyclean

    * treat the stain as soon as you can, but i have had stuff come out I thought would never come out that was in laundry for several days

    * Shout GEL with the scrub brush on the end is GREAT for getting into the fibers.  The spray is not consistant for me, but that gel rocks.

    * Biz can really help get the dull stains out of whites.  Its a great cleaner.

    * Dawn dish detergant squirted on ANYTHING that might be great related.

    * Murphy's oil soap on stain will completely take out dry erase marker.

    * If stain does NOT come out with first try, try something else and wash again, do NOT let it go in dryer.  I might try shout gel, then oxyclean and dawn.  I have had stuff go through 4 times and it finally came out clean.

My arsenal in the laundry room and I get great results - though cantelope and mellon is very hard to get out:

Biz, Oxyclean Powder and Spray, Spray N Wash Gel and Spray, Dawn Detergent, Murphy's Oil Soap, and Kirkland Free and Clear Detergant from Costco is what I use to wash clothes with.
