TTC After a Loss

Prometrium Users

This is the first time that I've taken prometrium after ovulation.  I'm assuming that taking it is going to keep AF from coming.  When do you normally stop taking it?  12 dpo? 14 dpo?  other?

Re: Prometrium Users

  • Hmm... I use prometrium to make me have an AF. I take 2 pills for 10 days and wait for it to work it's magic.

I'm afraid I don't know much about what you're using it for.. sorry!

  • Yeah, that's what I'm used to also.  This is the first time I've used it to keep my LP going.
  • Even though I dont take prometrium, I thought I would give you an answer anyways. :)

Its not the prometrium that causes AF, its the withdrawl of the hormone progesterone (what prometium is) that causes AF.  Once your ovaries pop out that little egg the corpus luteum produces progestrone, (what causes the temp to go up) and will support the developing empryo until the umbilical cord is established.

So right now you are taking it to give your body a little boost to help your embyro until everything else is well established.  Does that make sense?  Heres a chart just incase that shows which hormones are being produced, how much, and when.

  • I'm with you, Emma... that's why I said keeping AF from coming.  My progesterone is "falsely elevated".  If I'm not pg, I want to know when I should let it drop (stop taking the prometrium).  AKA -- when should I trust my hpt such that I can reasonably assume that I'm not KTFU and stop the prometrium.
  • Sorry, just got off my exercise bike (day 3, btw- and going strong!).  Obvioiusly, it makes it hard for me to read when I exercise.  Well, you have no idea how long your LPs used to be, right?  I think i've seen most stop at 14dpo, what did your doc say?  Wait, she must not have, hence the question.  Im feeling slow today.

  • No worries... it's good info.  I love the little picture.

You are correct in assuming that my doc didn't tell me and that I have zero clue how long my LP is.  I'm a bit of a mess.  I'm guessing that I'll just stop at 14 dpo... seems reasonable enough.

Good for you for doing such a good job on your exercise bike.  That's great!

  • Well, since you are obvioulsy KTFU, you should just keep taking it.  Hows your healthy life plan going?
