Change OB?

I chose a different office this pregnancy than the one I went to with Jonas because the office I went to then was very big and a bit impersonal. The care I got was fine.

I now go to a single doctor practice that is farther away, but was worth th drive. I got a letter from his office yesterday basically saying he can't keep up with his patient load anymore and is combining with anothe practice. That's fine. The thing is, he is moving to their office, which is over an hour away from my house. I really don't want to have to make that drive every time I go to the doctor's office.

WWYD? The super long drive for care that is a bit more personal, or go back to the old office which gives good care and is more convenient, but not quite as personal?

Re: Change OB?

  • Instead of going back to the larger practice is it possible to find another single practice OB closer to your home?

No...with our insurance, he was the only smaller practice within a reasonable distance : (

  • I'd go for the one that is closer, but I don't really care about having a personal type relationship w/ my doctor.  With two kids at home and not knowing if you will need any extra appointments if a complication arises, I'd want it to be convenient.

Also, would it change where you deliver?

  • I would drive an hour to see my OB. As it is looking I may have to switch OB's in my 3rd trimester because of the nightmare we are going through with DH's HR department and I am bitterly upset about it.
