To be honest, I didn't realize I was following one. My DH and I just decided to strip out as much sodium as we could and add more fruits and veggies. Limit red meat and stick with fish and chicken. Also use heart healthy oils like avocado, walnut and olive oil. Before I got pregnant, I was trying to follow a low glycemic index diet since I have PCOS and was having problems conceiving. Since the wrong carbs have a way of keeping the pounds on. When you remove them or lower them as much as you can, weight comes off a little easier. But since we technically don't need to lose weight until after the baby is born, watching what foods you eat can also control the blood sugar to help prevent getting gestational diabetes and type II diabetes in the long run. (I'm at a high risk of getting that.)
I'm going to have to look over that DASH diet you mentioned. It does look similar to what I am doing and perhaps can add more to what I'm doing now. Since changing my diet, my body hasn't quite made the change as fast as I made it and kind of left me a, shall we say, backed up. lol Dr recommended colace and so far I am feeling much better.
