Recommend stretch mark cream!

Hi there,

So at the rapid rate I'm growing (already in maternity clothes!), I figure it's never too early to start slathering my belly with some good stretch-mark-prevention cream. DH has also asked me to start looking into this.

I've been using the trial size bottles of cocoa butter lotion and cream they give at Motherhood Maternity but would love to hear what else you're using/have used that has worked.

Thanks so much!!

Re: Recommend stretch mark cream!

  • I have to agree... it's genetics.  But I do use baby oil and lotion everyday just in case.  My sister and I have used the same lotions during pregnancy and she has them (bad) and I don't. You're either lucky or you're not.  But don't you worry, pregnancy has left its mark on me in other ways... see what breast feeding will do to the girls!  But it was worth it.
  • Ditto what others have said, you either get them or you don't.  Sadly, I don't think any amount of lotion will help if you are going to get them.  That said, I use cocoa butter lotion on my belly every night after a bath.  It helps keep my skin soft with all the growing and stretching and also with itching.  For me, during periods of growth I itch.  So far I have no stretch marks, but my mom never got any either, so who knows.  GL

  • Ditto others' comments about nothing you can really do to prevent them. I don't have them but due to the dry, itchy skin I've had, I do the Palmer's stretch mark cream and my friends have bought me mommy-to-be packages with luxury stretch mark creams in it--I use it for their wonderful smells (two brands I have are Mama Mio and Bella Mama).

  • Like others have said, nothing will prevent them. I used Mama Bee from the Burts Bee line, I liked the smell better than the Palmer's cocoa butter. It worked great when my belly stretched so fast that it hurt and got dry. I thought I would be in the clear since my mom didn't have them, but yeah right, my belly looks like a road map now. My advice, use the lotion, but don't even waste your energy fighting the stretch marks, if you are meant to get them you will.

  • Thanks, friends! I'll experiment with some of those creams--but also keep it all in perspective and know that whatever happens, happens! Once again, this board has proved incredibly helpful Smile

Nothing works.  There is no such thing as a cream that prevents them.  If you're destined to get them, you will, and vice versa.  Creams can help with the itching, but that's about it.  Sorry!

This -- your cream is mother nature.

  • I agree with previous posters, in my case I used the Spoiled Mama products and really loved them!

My belly hasn't itched often so I'm assuming it has helped and I personally find that it has helped lighten them up a little bit... :)

  • The body shop's cocoa butter (in the flat round container), is by far the best cocoa butter on the market!  Yes, I've been told it is genetics, however, with twins, you may go beyond genes.
