Two Under 2

Are you buying new bottles for DC #2?

I have a two year old at home and have lots of Avent bottles. (I went bottle crazy w/ DC #1, always thinking I didn't have enough bottles.)  I'm wondering if I should buy brand new bottles or use the existing ones and just replace the nipples.  One of my concerns is that the bottles I have now are not BPA free...but I think the new Avent bottles are.

 What do you recommend? TIA!

Re: Are you buying new bottles for DC #2?

  • If not BPA free I would buy all new.

  • I'm the same as you... DD is almost 2 and I have a ton of new Avent bottles because DD refused the bottle and never used them!  I am planning on reusing the bottles.  I'm not too concerned about the BPA.  If it's that big of a deal, they would have recalled it, which they never did in the US.

  • geez... sorry about the multiple replies!  My computer had a hiccup... and I can't delete the duplicates on this board...

Meant to say... do what you're comfortable with!

  • i have BPA laced avent bottles.  i'm not concerned since they're never heated to the point that the BPA would leach (and i don't nuke them).  i just bought new nipples.
  • I bought new nipples, but not new bottles -- I used Playtex Nursers with the disposable drop-ins, though.

If I were in your position, I'd probably replace your bottles since they aren't BPA-free.  I think that BRU had a program where they took your BPA bottles back and let you exchange them for BPA-free.  It might be worth it just to call them to see if that program is still available.

  • I would replace the BPA free bottles.

We went crazy with the Avent bottles too at first....the DS stopped liking the nipples or something...so I tried some others and ended up with the playtex drop-ins - WOW that is so much easier than spending 30 min each night washing bottles and parts. Not to mention not needing a bottle drying rack or anything.

With 2u2 - I say look into those! And you just need one bottle, really. That's all we have!

  • I traded all my BPA Dr. Browns for BPA Free Dr. Browns at BRU when they were doing it so I am keeping the old bottles and just buying new nipples.

  • Our bottles were the BPA free from Dr. Browns so we had planned to use them again. Too bad DS2 didnt have the same idea!! Lol. He just chocked on the nipples. We ended up having to go out and buy all new Avent bottles because he did better with those.
  • Some of the bottles are bpa free & some aren't I plan to replace the ones that have bpa.  I will buy new nipples & vents for all of them.  We use Dr. Browns.
  • I am playing it by ear. With DD I noticed that she did not like every bottle, so I am not going to count on the idea that #2 will like what DD liked. I will get new nipples and start with what I have, then see where it goes.
  • I didn't.  DD hardly used them since she was mostly BFed.
