How do you feel about windows open at night?

When you sleep, that is? Do you leave windows open on the main floor while you're sleeping? Just curious.... We have an alarm system, so I don't mind leaving them open... Not to mention, I live in a town with 600 people. LOL

  • 2nd floor, no problem, 1st floor, not so much.

  • We do all the time - we are in a two family, though (we are the top two floors). I wouldn't leave them open if we had street level windows.

  • We leave ours open but only because we have these little "stops" on the window that keep the window from opening more than a few inches.
  • I'm in a second floor apartment, so I have no problem with it now (old building, so high ceilings, so our windows are pretty high off the ground).  But, I won't leave the fire escape window open (or ever even unlock it for a second) because that makes me nervous (which sucks since it's the only window in my bedroom).  Growing up my mom put nails in the window frames on the first floor so we could partially open them but a person couldn't get through and they were easily removable to open the window all the way during the day or close it all the way.  Once I own a house that's what I'll do because I love open windows.

  • yeah, that is a big fat NO. I am way too paranoid.  I am the type that has to go through the house and check the doors like 3 times before I go to bed to make sure they are locked. lol

NO way would I leave the windows open.

  • Doesn't bother me. We live in BFE, though, and truthfully, if someone really wanted to break in, it wouldn't be all that difficult.

  • I leave them open. We live in a town of 150 people, I'm not too worried, you'd need a step stool or ladder to get into most of them on the main floor anyway.
  • Even though we live in a very small town with little to no crime (think lake country area), we close the 1st floor windows every night & leave the upstairs ones open. We have left the 1st floor ones open before though.  We came from a large city, so I guess it's a habit.  Same with locking the doors to the house & car. You just never know.

  • We leave the windows open. Honestly, our doors and windows are so flimsy in this old house that a determined toddler could manage to break in, LOL.

I also usually don't lock my front door and when my car is in the driveway the keys are usually tossed onto the center console.

  • I'm not generally a window opener....I just prefer my a/c on.

But, during the few times it's not brutally hot or totally frigid, I like to open them.

I also live in a tiny town and, really, if someone wants to hike up my 400ft inclined driveway in pitch black, hearing the faint rustle of who-knows-what animal, closed windows aren't going to stop them from breaking in because that is some kind of determination!

  • I leave them open. Truth be told, it never even crossed my mind to close them at night. Funny, because my parents house was robbed multiple times while I was growing up, so you would think that I would be a little more paranoid. Of course, my Pitt Bull and my Rottweiler sleep on the first floor at night, so that might help add to my mental security Stick out tongue

  • We leave the window in our room (mine and DH) open when it's nice out.  The screen is still up and the shades/curtains are down.  But it's nice to have the breeze.  No other windows in the house are open at night.

We're on the first floor, but the window's pretty high off the ground.  I feel fine about it.

  • We close the windows on the first floor, but leave the windows in our room (2nd floor) open. We live in a small village and there's almost no crime. :)
  • We will leave windows open except in DS room. I could not sleep knowing his window is open.

  • On the first floor - only a crack with the safety tabs.  More than once I've heard of people being robbed or raped in the area by someone who came in an open window so I'd never leave them fully open on the first floor.  On the second floor, yes, but only in our bedroom.
