an occasional drink while pg?

I'm not talking about drinking every day or even more than one drink.  Just wondering what the opinions are.

Re: an occasional drink while pg?

  • everyone is different, but for me...nope!

  • I had a glass of red wine maybe 3 or 4 times but it always gave me heartburn.  I think it is fine in moderation.
  • I know I'll get flamed for this, but I "allow myself" to have a glass of wine every week in my second and third trimester.  I don't usually even have one every week just because I'm not a big drinker and I hate letting an entire bottle go to waste for one glass. (DH doesn't drink wine.)  My CNM actually told me to drink a glass of red wine and take a hot bath when I was PG with DD#1 and my BP shot up.  She was hoping that it was just stress (and it was).  I was shocked, but she said a glass every week or two doesn't hurt anything and can help keep you relaxed.  From what I understand, in Europe, they recommend you cut back to one drink a day.  I had my first glass of this PG this past weekend.  We were staying at an Embassy Suites and it's free drinks at happy hour.  We had a long rough day with the girls (overtired from traveling and everything else) so I had a glass of white wine.  I'll probably have a few more before the end of the PG...

  • I have a couple of friends who drink a few times per week when they are 36+ weeks.

    I never drank.

  • I'll admit that in my second pregnancy I had a glass of wine a few weeks before I was due.  DH and I were out for our anniversary and I decided one glass of wine with a meal and lots of water in the last month of pregnancy wouldn't hurt.  I also had half a glass of champagne at a wedding when I was pregnant with my older daughter.  Both girls were fine.  One per pregnancy is all I did either time, both late in the third trimester.  I don't think I would do more than 1 drink or earlier than the last month or so (both were after I was term).

  • DH somes times has a beer in the evening, and I often have a sip or 2 of it.

If I am at a mom's night out or something, I will often have half a glass of something.  That is once a month though.

In other words, occasionally is a-ok with me.  I dis avoid completely during the 1st tri though.

  • I don't think I had any with Ava...I had a few drinks of wine while pg with Logan, during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, but never a full glass - just sips.
  • No way... while it MAY be ok and the baby MAY be just fine, it's not worth the risk for me. I can handle not drinking for 9 months to ensure that my baby is as healthy as possible. Smile

  • I don't during the first tri/early second tri.  But, the end of the second tri and during 3rd tri, I've had an occassional glass wine or beer when I've had a particularly rough day.  Every few weeks or so.  I'd never have more than one, but I don't have a problem with one drink every now and then.  I did with DD#1 and with this pregnancy as well.

  • I'm not a drinker, but I wouldn't have had a problem with a glass a week. my friend who just gave birth had a glass or two a week.
  • Nope, I am just not comfortable with the idea. ?Also, I am sure my OB would say no way, since she has vetoed hair color, and just about anything else that some people do and some don't.?

    Ditto exactly!!!!!!!

  • No. The latest research shows that even a couple of drinks while pregnant can harm a fetus. It might be fine for most people, but it's not worth the risk, IMO.
