Mom's of 2- y/o's...if you don't have stairs in your home

and you were going on vacation and staying in a 2 story home would you take a baby gate? I know this is a silly question but I have never had to worry with stairs. DS is a pro going up and down the 3 steps in the garage at home but not too sure about him going up and down a whole flight. He will be sleeping in a PNP so it no that I worry about him getting up at night and falling down a flight of stairs b/c he not use to them being there. There will be 2 other kids (6 and 8 y/o) there running up and down the stairs and DS always thinks he that big too when they are around. I just hate for him to think he's just as capable as they are and then end up getting hurt. WDYT should I borrow a gate from someone to take with us or am I just being paranoid?

  • I wouldn't worry about it. ?It would be too much of a pain with the 6 and the 8 year old to have to navigate the gate. ?He will know his limits after going up and down them a few times. ?My son is a champ on our steps and we had them gated until about 1 or 2 months ago. ?He goes at his own speed but loves the freedom.

  • I don't have stairs, but haven't used gates when I'm at my folks. I never let DD do the stairs alone.  She tries, but boy I think she could really get hurt.
  • I'd take a gate.  My 2 y/o would want to play on the stairs the whole time.
  • I always bring a gate if whoever we are staying with has stairs. Just one less thing I have to worry about.
  • I akways thought a pressure mounted gate wasn't safe for stairs? Only wall-mounted gates are supposed to be used there.

  • I would.  My nephew (18 months at the time) came to visit us & he loved the stairs! He thought it was a game when we told him "no".  We were sick of chasing him up the stairs, so I put the gate up for SIL. She said that they don't have stairs & so he was facinated with them. DD also loved them when we moved here. I had the gate up so long that now she knows that if we go upstairs then it's bedtime! lol!

  • I don't think pressure gates are good for the top of stairs (they could fall down if they lean on it too much), just at the bottom (to keep them from going UP)...if you know what I'm sayin?
