Okay, I need suppport

My bff has a mass in her abdomen.  Around 5 months ago she told me that her stomach is getting bigger (she lives in Los Angeles, I live in Omaha) and she isn't gaining weight but her stomach looks pregnant.  She goes to the doctor and has a whole GI work up  and nothing.  Fast forward to her getting pregnant.  She is currently 14 weeks pregnant.  She had her first u/s a couple weeks ago and the tech kept saying "oh my" and calling people in.  She has this mass in her stomach.  It starts at the top of her uterus (not in her uterus) and goes up under her ribs.  It is all throughout her stomach.  They think the pregnancy hormones have caused it to grow faster but that she probably has had it awhile.  She went from the u/s to a specialist (immediately) and then followed up with a oncologist last week.  She has to have it removed.  They said it is bigger than a watermelon- but more spread out.  They are hopeful that it isn't cancer but won't know until they get in there.  They say the safest time for the surgery is when the baby is 16-18 weeks.  so, in a couple weeks she will have the surgery.  They are hopeful but extremely concerned.

I'm trying to have a positive attitude and be there for my friend.  I can't stop crying though.  Every time I talk to her I end up bawling.  I need to be strong for her and pull it together.  So, if you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers I would appreciate it.  And if you could give me strength to be a good friend I would appreciate this also.

  • Wow, she will be in my prayers.
  • Your friend is so lucky to have you in her life because you are such a caring, supportive friend. I will say some prayers for her and her baby. I am sure that everything will be fine. Try not to worry too much, but I know that is so hard to do. (((big hugs)))

    Me with my littlest.
  • Lots of hugs to you and good wishes to her.

I can relate - my bff is having a lot of medical/fertility issues right now and we live in different cities. I just want to scoop her up and make everything okay.

You sound like a wonderful, supportive friend - I'm sure she's very grateful to have you to confide in.

  • I will pray for you and your friend.  As someone who has gone through the loss of both my parents in the last three years, the best thing you can do as a friend is just be there to listen.
  • How scary.  You're a sweet person to be concerned, but don't worry about crying when you talk to her.  I'm sure she knows it's because you care about her so much and is touched by your concern and support.  You're both in my thoughts and prayers.

  • I just heard about something VERY similar to this from a friend.  It turned out to be very very big, but completely benign.  I will send good thoughts that this has the same outcome:)

  • This is just a reminder to always get a second & third opinon.  If you think something is wrong & you aren't getting the answers you need---keep investigating! I'm so sorry this is happening to your friend.  I will think of her in my prayers.  Be there for her, she needs all the support & strength she can get to get through this!
