1.) Is sleeping on your back dangerous for *you* or dangerous for baby?
2.) Anyone else still able to sleep on their stomach at around 18 weeks+? I'm still doing it and very comfortable and figured I would not be, by this point.
I've heard sleeping on your back for long periods of time wasn't good but I don't know why and was never really a back sleeper anyway. I can still sleep on my stomach but it's more on my side/ stomach but it's still the comfiest ways to sleep.
I take comfort any day. Any position that you can fall asleep in (1/2 on side, 1/2 tummy, back) is a win in my book.
That said, I can still be on my back for a bit and have it not bother me. When i roll over, my stomach kinda flattens out (from the pre-preg cushioning fat that i have!) and makes it easier to lay 1/2 side, 1/2 tummy.
1) you will have shortness of breath by sleeping on your back. I stopped when i was about 28 weeks -i figured my body will tell me when to stop and boy was that right!
2) i had to stop sleeping on my stomach at 13 weeks b/c i popped.. but everyone is different.
I was able to lay on my stomach until around 18 weeks, it felt weird after that.
As for sleeping on your back...I still wake up on my back most days. Its not uncomfortable for me to lay on my back either. My midwife simply said "dont do it if its not comfortable, if it feels ok, its ok"
The reason you're not supposed to sleep on your back (or lay on your back) when you're further along is b/c the increased weight of your uterus and the baby presses on a main artery and can cause you to pass out. So it cuts off blood flow and oxygen to you and the baby.

I think the general consensus is that as long as you are still comfortable, it is okay to do both. Your body will let you know when it's not okay, trust me. Soon enough you will feel like you can't breath when you are on your back. If that happens, it's time to switch. That is just starting to happen for me. I also am still able to sleep on my stomach just fine, if I have a pillow propped under one side of me so I'm not laying completely flat.

This. Sleep how you can comfortably and your body DOES tell you when you can't anymore because it will become uncomfortable. Plus you move in your sleep a lot so even if were trying to sleep on your side you could end up on your back.
I agree with a PP in that I sleep in a 1/2 side 1/2 stomach position! works great!
