Let's say your toddler was walking around drinking a Coke Zero.

And your MIL was in charge today, and last night you swept the house for any open containers of anything and threw out two empty cans.  Let's then say your MIL has no idea where he got it from (likely one she opened but does not remember) and he was buzzed beyond belief at naptime.

Would you be at all concerned with this situation? :)

  • I think I would make her stay and take care of him at naptime!!

  • Does your MIL watch your children while you're at work, like on a regular basis, or was this casual babysitting?

  • If it's an every once in awhile thing, I probably would let it slide. If not, just tell her not to give it to him.

  • Well, is the assumption that this MIL is lying or just forgettful. Depending on which one that is would depend on how I would handle the situation.

  • I agree with Mominator.  Two different situations calling for different responses.
  • She babysits 2-3 mornings every week and she's saying she doesn't know where he got it from.  I believe she's forgetting the fact that it is 99% likely that she opened the can and then forgot she did so since he cannot open soda cans himself.

I think our concern comes in not really with him drinking it but rather that she's becoming forgetful...

  • Yes, that would concern me.  If she forgets walking to the frig, removing a can and opening it what else is she forgetting?  God knows what she could leave lying around for your kids.

Then I would have a whole different set of concerns. Does she forget other things too?

  • Yeah she forgets some other stuff too.  Mostly little stuff but you're right, what else is she neglecting while she's there?

  • I would probably flip out on her but that is because everyone in my family knows not to even think about giving my DS soda.

  • I often forget that I already had an open pop & open another one....so frankly it wouldn't bother me at all.
