S/O What age for tying their own shoes?

I was thinking 4 or 5, but wasn't really sure when to start teaching this skill.

 

 is it tying or tieing?

Around 6.  4 is still pretty young for that type of coordination.

Thx. I was wondering if it's somethig they should go to kindergarten knowing how to do. (DD will only be 4 when she goes to kindergarten).

My dd just started doing it at age 5.  Granted, it's not done very well but she's always been the type to say - I can do it myself!

6 is probably average. My DS, who otherwise had excellent fine motor skills, didn't master it until he was 7.5. I think he just wasn't interested.

4 would be way early.

Alissa's K teacher says that's something that she should be able to do by the end of kindergarten.

I remember learning to tie mine, so 5 or 6. Probably 6. Random tidbit - my aunt was the one who finally taught me, and she's left handed (I'm not) and to this day I tie my shoes like a leftie.
