2nd Trimester

Question about growing, showing and movement

Today I woke up and my bump had disappeared. Even DH confirmed it isn?t there anymore. I was getting excited last week when I actually had gotten one.

On movement. If I put my hand on my belly I have been feeling what seems to be bubbles or carbonation. It?s really faint and occasionally I?ll feel what seems like a little ?kick?. But I don?t feel anything just sitting around?no flutters, etc. My doctor said that I will feel the first movement between 18-20 weeks but it seems like a lot of you have already felt it.

Please help me relieve my anxiety! Since I?m not really showing and not feeling any real movement yet I feel like the baby isn?t growing (or has stopped). I was so excited last week when it seemed like things were progressing in the right direction. Is this happening to you?

Re: Question about growing, showing and movement

  • You might have just had bloat and gas. There is still time for the bump and kicking to show up. (Plus, you still have a while before you'd feel it on the outside)

  • My bump comes and goes. Sometimes it's really obvious and other times, my stomach is almost completely flat.  Definitely don't worry about that!

And I'm almost 19 weeks and I'm still not sure I've felt movement.  My doctor told me anything between 16 and 22 weeks is normal, so I'm not too concerned about it.

  • At first I thought that those little bubbles and flutters were gas, but after talking to women on here I found out that it was actually movements!! :-) I know how you feel when you say you think that the baby stopped growing...and I talked to my DR. about this and she told me to realize that every pregnancy is different and that some women don't start showing until about 6 or 7 months along. So, hang in there...everything is prefect I'm sure!!

  • I didn't feel my LO until about a week ago. She's most active in the evening around bed time, but sometimes I feel her in the morning or after lunch. To me it feels like something is thumping me from the inside. I've also heard it described as popcorn popping, flutters and tickles. The best way I can distinguish it is that gas is slightly uncomfortable, muscle twitches are slightly to very painful, and LO is just like a little tap on the inside - cool and not uncomfortable at all. My bump has definitely become more pronounced in the last 2-3 weeks.

  • I am not showing at all yet. Around 17 weeks I felt little flutter and tiny movements but would second guess myself. Everyone kept saying, "you'll feel it when it's time." Well WTH does that mean?!

This weekend is the first time I've felt kicks and summersaults and actual movement. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow. You're almost there!! And everyone is different, so maybe you'll feel it sooner!

  • At first I thought it was gas bubbles or muscle twinges too but they are happening all the time for me (starting last week) but I'm still hesistant to tell someone about them because I didn't want to seem dumb if they weren't baby kicks. Smile

  • Your belly is probably still mostly bloat at this point. I had several weeks of the disappearing belly thing. I finally have a small permanent baby belly. I also felt very little in the way of movement until the last couple of weeks. I was starting to get a little anxious too because so many people talked about feeling kicks here or there and I never really had that. But I tell you when I finally did start feeling the movement it was like POW, and now I feel the baby at least a few times a day. I could also feel it on the outside right away but I am fairly thin. I understand it is frustrating to have to wait, but you are far from alone!

  • thank you so much for your sweet and positive comments. I guess I was reading a bunch of posts this morning from ladies who had already felt fluttering a kicks and it got me discouraged. I'm so glad there are others in the same boat. It's a bit unnerving when you don't get to go to the doctor every day/week to make sure there's still a heartbeat and baby is still growing just fine! Thanks again for the reassurance!
  • I never felt flutters. I went straight to nudges and kicks from a couple bubble feelings. I think that's probably your baby!! It still feels like that sometimes to me.

And I'm not showing. I'll have a belly one day, poop, and then it's gone. LOL.
