I will be flying (3 hour flight) with DS the end of September for a
wedding and I am really stressing. We will be there 4 days (wedding is
the 3rd day we are there). DS will be staying with my mom during the
rehearsal/rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception. I EBF so need some
advice..
We are currently trying to introduce the bottle and
he hates it. (So any advice would be appreciated). We finally got him
to take one yesterday, but he was hungry again an hour later. I am
thinking I just didn't make a big enough bottle for him (3 oz). How
much does your 7 week old eat per feeding? What should I plan he will
need at 2 months?
I have enough frozen bm to feed him for the 2 nights I am away from him. Just wondering how to transport it though. After thawed it is only good for 24 hours. So I am not sure how to keep it frozen for the approx 6 hours of traveling. Any suggestions?
Should I pack in dry ice and ship to my mom the
night before we get there? Or should I give him the frozen bm the
couple days before we travel and pump like crazy so I can just keep it
cool (it will last 3 days cold not frozen right?)
TIA
Re: New with lots of questions..
We flew w/ my LO at 5 weeks, it was a good age since she slept so much. I had her in the sling all set up to nurse going up and coming down but she slept through it all. I flashed a 3-4y/o girl who was in the seat in front of us, but I'm sure I didn't scar her for life.
As to the evenings, what about bringing your LO to the rehearsal dinner in a sling?? Chances are he sleeps a lot so wouldn't really be noticed. If you wear a skirt and a top w/ a tank under you can nurse in the sling and people will think he is sleeping. As to time at the wedding can you nurse between the ceremony and reception?? Maybe your mom can meet you somewhere? I don't know about traveling with a bunch of frozen milk, I would be afraid of it melting, perhaps bringing cold fresh milk would be better, or pumping after you arrive during the early morning/morning to make some bottles of fresh while you are gone- if you BF right before leaving LO maybe you won't need too many bottles.
GL and enjoy the visit with friends and family.
Playtex makes a little black lunchbox type bag that keeps things could for 12 hours. I put frozen milk in it, flew cross country (including a layover) and it was barely, barely, defrosted.
Your LO will eat about the same then as he does now. Hard to believe, but from 6 weeks to 6 months their intake doesn't change. I would do 4-5 oz if baby was hungry right after 3. If you are worried about refusing the bottle, give one every 24 hours to keep it familiar.
We went to a wedding and I was away for about 12 hours. I pumped in a friend's hotel room before and after the service, and then after the reception. Not the most convenient but I survived.
