I like Violet too- it's in our top 10 girls names. But I am always a fan of traditional spellings- my name is a common one spelled strange it is a pain in the neck.

I assume you want the name pronounced like the colour violet.
I would say Violette completely different. It may just be because I am fluently bilingual but if you spell it that way it should be pronounced as it would be in french. I'm not sure how to write it out pronetically but to give you the general idea, vee-o-lette. The 'lette' is said the same way you would say the ending of the name Colette. And, the "vee-o" part would be said very quickly - the emphasis would be on the 'lette'.
I pronounce them differently. I LOVE Violet, VYA-lit, but dislike Violette (Vee-oh-let), with the ending the same as Colette. Violette makes me giggle a little bit, like someone being silly pronouncing Violet.
Also I adore the flower, so I'd want to name my daughter the same name as the flower, it just seems the sweetest.
Re: name spelling clicky poll
I like both, but to me they are 2 different names. When I see #1, I pronounce it Vi-let. With #2 I pronounce it Vi-o-let. Maybe I'm just weird.
