how long in toddler bed before switching to next stage

dd's crib converts to toddler bed then big kid bed (don't remember if it's twin or full or queen) and I'm trying to pick out bedding for when we convert but don't know if I should get toddler then buy bedding again when we go next stage or just skip toddler.  what did you do?

I think it really depends on when you want to buy a bed.  We had to move DS out shortly after we converted his bed b/c we had another DC that needed the crib.  I think he was only in the toddler bed for 2 mos.  DD will probably be in it a good year before she gets a bed.

We went from a toddler bed to a twin with in a few weeks.  We moved dd to the guest room when we moved her to the new bed and I needed to clean it out so it was a few weeks and she did fine.

My DD was in the toddler bed for about 10 mos.  We just used the same bedding that she used w/her crib, w/the addition of a down 'lap' blanket which was a perfect size, because her toddler bed was really just the  crib w/the front panel removed.  After we finally figured out she wasn't sleeping well because the bed was too small, we convered it up to the next size (full size) and bought the new bedding then.
