bottle messing with nursing?

I've been pumping. It's nice to use a bottle 1-2 times a day when I'm in a crunch or if I'm out..it's easier to give her the bottle than the boob.  today I noticed she was fussy on the breast on more than 1 occasion, she was hungry, but wasn't really latching on and was crying. I'm wondering (even tho she is almost 6 weeks and is def. well established with nursing) if the bottle is causing this?  I know they don't have to work as hard with a bottle, and maybe it's confusing to her to go back and forth between bottle and breast b/c the suck is different?

Re: bottle messing with nursing?

  • If it is confusing, I mostly hear about kids who only take the breast.  I wish my DS would take a bottle.  He is sometimes fussy BF, especially at night, but will not take a bottle.

  • It may well be confusing her, but I'd keep offering the bottle.  She'll get used to it.  I offered all my kids a bottle around 1 week old even though everyone told me to wait.

I know. It's really nice to have the option of the bottle as well as the breast. Lila took the bottle like a champ since she was 2 weeks old. DD # 1 never really took to a bottle, so I thought it was a great thing that Lila was taking it so easily. But I also don't want to mess with the breast, so I guess I'll just keep on with both.......
