Update on DS allergic reaction.

Kay is looking better today. Still has hives over much of his body, but the swelling is gone and he is much happier. Thanks for all the advice and concern. I'm hoping it won't take weeks to get into the allergist. We need to make sure he can have antibiotics in the future.

I've been thinking about him!  Poor baby.  I asked DH what he thought and he said that if he would have come to the ER he would have given Benadryl and steroids...possibly and Epipen and then referred him to an allergist.  He said it most definitely sounds like an allergic reaction to abx.  Has he been taking penicillin based abx?

Yes - he's also taken other types. I'm a bit peeved @ our pediatrician. I voiced my concern that I did not think it was healthy for him to keep taking antibiotics. He broke out in a rash on 2 other occassions, but this was/is a MUCH MORE SEVERE reaction. I wanted him to be seen by an ENT a few months back in order to get the fluid out of the left ear - my concerns were brushed aside and more antibiotics were prescribed. He also was given the Hib vac and Flu vac on Monday after being on 2 courses of antibiotics back to back. He is on the small side (only 22 lbs @ 22 months), I just don't think it was wise to put so much into such a small child. I'm mad at myself for not being adament that we go in another direction, but I want to trust the DR. Sorry for the vent, but it been a hellish couple of days. The pedi. did call this am to check up on him. I guess he's trying to redeem himself.
