2nd Trimester

This seems...weird.

So I had a girl day with some friends today. DH took the kids to the beach so we would have uninterupted girl time. We moved into the house this weekend and I was really excited about giving them the grand tour.

As I was we started noticing things that seemed...strange I guess.

Like missing lightbulbs. The ones from the hood in the kitchen and out on the porch. In the showers in the bathrooms and in the halways.

We also noticed some missing knobs from doors like on the pantry and hall closets.

And one of my girlfriends went to use the bathroom (the little half bath which we haven't used yet) and there was vasoline on the handle of the sink and cellophane across the toilet bowl (that she noticed before going thank goodness!)

After they left I walked through the place again and found other odd things

like a piece of carpet in J's room was removed. It is in the closet and not really noticable but there doesn't seem to be a reason for it.

DH and the kiddos got home about an hour ago and when the came in from the garage Dh was holding a box...with lightbulbs and little cabnient sized door knobs...

"babe did yoy take these off for a reason?"

uhhhh I didn't do it.

It bugs me because we started the moving process on thursday and spent our first night last night and I had not notcied it (although we were all really tired!)

Our realator did tell us the previous owners has come over because "they left some things in the attic the wanted to get" on wed. And this is a forclosure house...am I being silly thinking they were bitter about losing their home and went through doing all of this stuff?

It is just so random and kind of a PITA as now we have to replace the bulbs and put the knobs back on.

Not a huge deal...just weird! lol

Re: This seems...weird.

  • that is REALLY strange. I wouldn't be surprised if they are bitter about having to leave. But that's kind of an invasion of privacy...having things missing and messed with.

  • wow that is really really weird!  My guess is the old owners did that, which is absolutely rude but they are probably bitter or you have really weird ghosts.  My guess is the old owners though!

  • Thats what Dh said. I felt bad because all i could do was laugh...because well if that is true...it just seems very silly and juvinille! lol

  • might be able to offer insight on the cellophane-- my parents have a place in Florida and when they are gone an extended period of time and turn off the water they cellophane the toilets to discourage rodents from crawling up the pipes into the apartment.

you know what that makes sense. I know the water was turned off so maybe there was cellophane on the other toilets that I didn't notice before hmmmm.

I'm sure there is some sort of explanation :)

  • I'd say that is a bit much.. As I was reading, I thought it was probably a forclosure or something because why would someone want to mess with the house like that and take the time to remove light bulbs. And putting cellophane on the toilet and vasoline on the sink knob?! Come on people, this isn't April fools day and I'm assuming they aren't teenagers.. I would have to say someone was a tad bitter and I would be pissed at that stuff. If you haven't already, I would change all the locks asap- like before you go to bed tonight.

  • That's really weird, and I would suspect the previous owners were playing juvenile pranks. Would anyone else have access to the house?
  • That is weird! Wasn't to nice of the people that lived there previously!

Unfortunately this type of thing has been known to happen with foreclosures.

I certainly hope the former owners no longer have the keys.

  • that is just too funny. but yes i would say that they came back and did that stuff because they are sore about foreclosure...obvisouly with the vasalen and cellophane across the toilet...
  • No luckily DH changed the locks on thursday so we aren't worried about that to much. I actually felt terrible about it being a forclosure and when the RE told us they had left some stuff and wanted to pick it up I didn't feel nervouse (again i felt bad...they lost their home)

now...not so much...lol (ok I do still feel a little bad)

I can see why it wouldn't make you think twice about them getting the last of their things and I would feel bad as well. But, it's not your fault they lost their house. They shouldn't take the blame out on you. It would make me nervous trying to figure out what else they messed with. I would want to go over the whole house and check if there are batteries still in smoke detectors, make sure any plumbing knobs and such are how they should be.. you never know if they are that bitter. I'm glad you aren't as irritated as I would have been.

Anyways, enjoy your new home and hopefully you don't find any more surprises!

  • Yup, sounds like they were pissed. My IL's moved into a forclosure house....it was awful. They left rotting food, trash, disgusting old pieces of furniture....it took like a week just to get it all cleaned.

We moved into a perfectly normal house and the previous owners took lightbulbs, towel holders that had been fixed to the wall (leaving massive holes in three of our walls), left a set of plastic shelves....sometimes people are just weird.

  • I might go ahead and call the police, just so it was on record these things happen.  Let's say they continue their immature behavior, (or even if it is neighbor kids) you are oging ot want on record when what happened from the beginning.
