When do you send/not send a sick kid to school?

I am new to the school thing.
DS just started PK3, he has a really runny nose but no other symptoms, do I send him?

When do you not?

Sincerly
Clueless :O)

Re: When do you send/not send a sick kid to school?

  • I wouldn't with a runny nose because ds tends to wipe it on his shirt sleeves or anything else he can find if there isn't a tissue around.

I figure, it's just preschool, they aren't missing anything.  My ds just missed last week because of the chicken pox, btw.

  • Loading the player...
  • Yikes chicken pox!

I was thinking I should keep him home (if it lasts) but I was not sure if I was being overly cautious.
    Thanks

  • It depends on the runny nose? Is it thick and gross? Then I'd keep her home. Clear and runny, I'd send her. Since my DD started daycare 2 days a week, she has a runny nose half the winter, so if I kept her home for every little booger, she'd never go!

    ditto this.

  • I think it really depends on the school and how your DC is acting.  I have a friends whose PS teacher sent kids home if they sneezed in class (not exaggerating).  At my kids' school, they can come as long as they aren't running a fever.  but, I keep them home if they're running like a faucet or otherwise miserable.  They have allergies anyway, so they would never go to school if they couldn't go with a runny nose.
